FAQs
What leather can I use saddle soap on?
Finished smooth leather — boots, saddles, tack, bags and belts. Avoid suede, nubuck and unfinished or exotic leathers.
Will saddle soap darken my leather?
It can slightly deepen the colour, especially on light or untreated leather. Test on a hidden area such as the inside of a boot shaft first.
How often should I use it?
Every few weeks with regular use, or whenever the leather looks dull or has picked up dirt and salt.
Do I need to condition afterwards?
Yes. Saddle soap cleans and adds some lanolin, but a conditioner or mink oil afterwards replaces the oils and keeps the leather supple.
Can I use it on suede or nubuck?
No — the lather mats the nap. Use a suede brush and eraser on those instead.
What's the brush for?
The 5" applicator brush works the soap into a lather and reaches seams, welts and tooling that a cloth can't.
